Resting in the arms…

12November2012

This picture was taken just minutes after little Caroline was baptized as she snuggled into the arms of her father. Caroline’s mom captioned it on Facebook, noting that “it is exhausting to have water dumped on your head.”

Indeed. The cruciform life opened to us in Holy Baptism will some times (most times, perhaps) wear us out. We will love and then forget. We will try and fail. We will know moments of deep joy and then again times of profound loss. Baptism does not remove the ups and downs of human existence. But it does promise this: through it all we are embraced…loved, comforted, encouraged, set right and restored.

Dear little one: I pray that no matter what life has in store for you, you may not lose sight of the profound truth conveyed in this candid image from the day of your baptism. You are always resting in the Father’s strong and loving arms.

    Amen. No other words needed.
